Our Favorite Actionable Advice
- Start small and experiment with platforms: Victoria began her content journey on Medium with a simple blog post about Google Ads. Despite earning only $7 in her first month, she saw the potential in content monetization.
- Own your audience: While Medium provided a solid audience and revenue stream, Victoria realized her business was dependent on the platform. She launched her website and newsletter to ensure access while using Medium as a marketing tool and revenue source.
- Niche to grow: Victoria published three different newsletters but couldn’t monetize them well. She narrowed it down to one newsletter covering growing a solo entrepreneurial business through search engine optimization (SEO).
- Think evergreen: Timeless products can help create stable revenue. Victoria’s first ebook has sold over 350 copies and earned over $10K in revenue.
- Diversify pricing: Victoria offers multiple price points for her audience, from $25 writing bundles to a 12-month content plan at almost $1K.

things to know
Money
-
Moving app: Substack now lets creators post video content through its app and allows for them to be monetized. [CNBC]
Tilt Take: Ease of publishing usually prompts more people to do it (and yes, it’s a TikTok-response move, too).
Audiences
-
Bye tradition: Over half of Gen Z (61%) and millennials (53%) use AI tools rather than traditional search engines, according to new research from Vox Media and The Verge. The analysts say it indicates power shifting back to the consumer, where personal, intentional, and trustworthy communities thrive. [The Verge]
Tilt Take: Don’t spend as much time playing the SEO game. Do spend more time building community-focused content. -
Open sesame: LinkedIn added send and open rates for its newsletter analytics. The send number represents subscribers who received an email notification for the article. The open rate is the percentage of subscribers who opened that email. [Lindsey Gamble]
Tilt Take: It’s about time LinkedIn publishers know the numbers behind their interactions.
Tech and Tools
-
Maybe real: Meta may develop a standalone app for short-form videos – making the Reels concept its own thing. [Tech Crunch]
Tilt Take: Where there is a move like this, there is an opportunity for money – for Meta, not the creators.
And Finally
-
So long: A lifestyle and culture creator confesses the industry is too competitive so she’s looking for full-time work. [Digiday]
Tilt Take: This creator operates like an influencer, not a content business where you don’t have to rely on getting paid for user-generated or sponsored content.
